Install and turn it on
The two switches that have to be on before anything appears, in the order you do them.
This takes about two minutes. Both steps happen in Shopify’s theme editor, and the app opens it for you at the right place.
1. Turn on the app embed
- Open Somix from your Shopify admin. The home page shows a setup guide titled Finish connecting Somix.
- On the step Switch on Somix in your theme, press Open theme editor.
- In the theme editor’s App embeds panel, toggle Somix on.
- Press Save, then go back to the app. The step ticks itself.
2. Add the block to a template
- On the step Place the block on your product page, press Add the block. The theme editor opens on your default product template with the block ready to place.
- Drag Somix recommendations to where you want it. Below the product form, under the buy button, is the usual choice.
- Press Save, and return to the app once more. All three steps are now ticked and the guide is replaced by a note saying Somix is live.
The block’s own settings
Select the block in the theme editor and you get three controls. They belong to that one placement of the block, not to the widget:
- Which widget: left on automatic, the block renders whichever of your widgets belongs on this template. Choose a layout instead to pin it to that one.
- Maximum products: between 2 and 10. This caps the widget’s own setting rather than overriding it, so it can only ever make the widget show fewer, never more.
- Match theme colours: inherit your theme’s colour scheme instead of the palette set in the app.
Other pages
Repeat step 2 on any template you want a widget on: product, collection, cart, home, or search. Each widget is assigned to one of those, and the block only ever draws a widget that belongs to the template it is sitting on, so a cart widget will not appear on a product page, even with the block there.
